shutdown problem
if i shutdown my computer before i shutdown the controller
i get a loud thump and the x axis lurch forward about 1/2 inch. i do not have this problem if i shutdown the controller then the computer definitely a problem there. I am running mach 3 on a shopbot this is a home built controller now setting it up for the first time. thanks paul |

do you have the charge pump connected and enabled on the BoB and in Mach3/EMC? Ries |
i have setup the charge pump in output signals enabled port 1 pin 1
in mach3 on jp3 the link is on non estop fault and outputs enabled on jp2 link is on always and pin 2-9 enabled thanks |

if you have JP2 on 'on always' (jumper close to the centronics port), then this means that you don't use the charge pump but instead you tell the BoB that you always want to have the system on 'on', meaning that the outputs always follow what the inputs do, given that teh estop is not in fault. So, when you stop the PC, there might be some random signals going which might make the steppers to turn. My suggestion is to reconfigure the BoB to put the jumper on "OK" and configure Mach3 to use the charge pump, it might just aswell be that you did configure Mach3 already but it was just the jumper in the wrong position. If you move Jp2 over to "OK" and the machine works, then all is fine. When you turn of the computer you shouldn't see the MM moving anymore. Ries |
i move the jumper over to ok machine works but same problem.
look like i will have to switch the controller off first i am sure its random signals that is causing the problem. i got this reply from a moderator on mach 3 forum. That sounds pretty typical if you are using the printer port. Mine clunks too but 1/2" is quite excessive ! Best to do as you are and kill the controller first, or at least install a switch to disable the drives before killing the PC. The port does weird things while booting up and shutting down. Could do damage if you were very near a limit switch or hard stop. RC if i decide to not use the printer port what can i use and what is involved . thanks paul |

I forgot to look at JP3, my bad....... From the manual : If you do not wish to use the charge pump feature, change jumper JP3 to the “not EStop/Fault” position. Can you also change JP3 to : 2 to 3 CP-OK & not EStop/faultControl , since I think you have that set to not EStop/faultControl sorry for the confusion. If you are into electronics, check http://www.pmdx.com/Doc/PMDX-122_Manual_111.pdf page 16, Figure 7 If you don't want to use the parallel port you could use a smoothstepper : http://www.warp9td.com/, but from what I understand it's still beta so I wouldn't use it yet. I have to turn off my controller before I turn off my computer or the router runs. It is no big deal for me.

I have to look at Mach to see which one I am connected to. It is cold here for FL so I went out to check. In Ports N Pins, Input.... probe pin 11 for me.
