John, which of your stepper motors do you recommend for the MechMate?

Also, would you ever consider putting a recommended Mechmate package together? ie- steppers/servos, drivers, power supply, etc. Just food for thought....

I was recommended the http://www.kelinginc.net/KL34H295-43-8B.pdf, it has the same holding torque as the vextras in unipolar. And for drivers, surprise surprise, geckos...

Glad to know bugmenot, I'll probably stick with the Vextras anyhow. I feel more comfortable going with something that's already been out there and working.

Goin to order 3pcs KL34H280_60_4A for X and Y and KL34H260-60-4A for Z on the mechmate. This one's gonna be a true mechmate not the one with servos. but with steppers and gecko's 203v and a break out board from CandCNC.com

Those are really large stepper motors. Large stepper motors have lots of resonance, meaning that they run rough (hard to tune). Four motors @ 7.8A = 31.2A, so the 20A power supply will not fully meet your needs.

Most CNC router operators prefer a geared (mechanical or belt-driven gearbox/transmission) to reduce the amount of "chatter". I've used both a 3:1 belt-drive and a 7.2:1 mechanical gearbox on my CNC router. Both are vastly superior to running a 1:1 (non-geared) stepper.

If I were you, I would look at a more moderate sized stepper motor that produces between 400 and 600 oz*in holding torque. For the fastest response, pick a motor with a low inductance rating. 1.5mH to 3mH motors are better than motors with a higher inductance rating. Motors with a 1.5mH rating would require a power supply with 40V maximum. (32 X SQRT(inductance)) = MAXIMUM voltage. I would also consider using Gecko stepper drivers (G203v). Finally, if the motors that you select aren't available with a gearbox, I would absolutely build a belt-drive transmission (3:1 or 3.6:1).

Your costs might be about 20% higher for the steppers and the stepper drivers, but you would have something that others have used successfully.

or a detailed list to make the combo, with information of the stores.?
I look for it, and saw only recomendation for parts, not the all combo.
